A multi-million pound plan to expand facilities at Bristol International Airport has been approved by local authorities.
North Somerset Council backed the £150 million scheme yesterday (February 25th) subject to 67 planning conditions.
The airport will be expected to contribute some £6 million towards the construction of a new road and traffic calming measures in the region, as well as £100,000 to reduce noise levels in the area.
On top of this, it will be limited to a maximum of ten million passengers per year and will only be permitted to operate a restricted number of night flights between the hours of 23:30 GMT and 06:00 GMT.
The plans were submitted to the council in June 2009 and must now be approved by its South Area Committee next month.
According to airport bosses, the expansion will create 3,500 jobs for local people and could bring an additional £1.1 billion of tourism revenue to the region.
