Mark Noble was searched on arrival from Thailand on June 14th after his luggage was deemed excessive by border staff.
Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard how the 25-year-old had three previous weapons convictions, but accepted a not guilty plea relating to the possession of other weapons.
A defence agent told how Noble had bought the items after he had leftover currency on a holiday with friends, adding that it was "a stupid thing to do".
Sheriff Deidre MacNeill QC said to the defendant: "You realise now I hope that you have committed serious offences under the firearms act and I had to consider a prison sentence."
Meanwhile, Star1 Airlines recently announced the launch of the first flight from Edinburgh Airport to Vilnius in Lithuania.
