Low-cost carrier Jet2 will offer new routes to passengers flying from East Midlands Airport later this year, it has confirmed.
The company's first aircraft was welcomed to the airport ahead of new services to Turkey, Corfu, Lanzarote, Greece, Tenerife and Egypt commencing on May 19th.
It anticipates the new routes will create some 200 jobs in the region and tickets are already on sale.
Commercial director Stephen Turner commented: "The addition of Jet2 to East Midlands Airport is a positive indicator for the future and puts us in a strong position as we continue to extend and develop our route network."
Passenger sales director Phil Ward added that the new routes will distinguish the carrier from its commercial rivals.
He added that the flights would be operated by Boeing 757 aircraft for comfort and speed.
Some five million travellers use East Midlands Airport to fly to over 100 destinations each year.
