A couple have been arrested in Bedfordshire after an alleged incident involving lasers at London Luton Airport.

The man and woman, both in their 20s, were taken in by police in connection with two occasions of shining a light on an overhead helicopter.

According to sources, the helicopter was answering a call in Luton when a laser was shined on it in the same area twice.

The couple were arrested on suspicion of shining a light at an aircraft in flight so as to dazzle or distract but have been released on bail until April 12th.

PCTim Aldous-Ball commented: "Laser devices can cause pilots to become distracted or disorientated.

"This was not only extremely dangerous for helicopter crew but also for the public and commercial airlines who use Luton Airport."

A similar case occurred at Liverpool John Lennon Airport last year, when a teenager was arrested in Speke for allegedly shining a laser on an EasyJet aircraft arriving from Belfast Airport.

The 16-year-old was released pending further inquiries.
