Passenger numbers at London Heathrow Airport grew last month in comparison to February 2009, it has been reported.

According to figures released by BAA, some 4.6 million travellers passed through its terminal buildings during the month, representing a 5.3 per cent rise.

February 2009 was a slow month for Heathrow due to heavy snow fall causing a number of delays and cancellations.

BAA chief executive officer Colin Matthews said: "Heathrow remains resilient and other airports are beginning to see encouraging signs.
"However, traffic remains depressed, reflecting tough conditions in the economy generally and in aviation specifically."

Stansted Airport's passenger numbers dropped 4.5 per cent during the same period, while Glasgow dropped five per cent and Aberdeen dropped 4.6 per cent.

Domestic travel across the whole BAA network was up 1.1 per cent from February 2009.

In other news, Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Royal Brunei Airlines began operating from London Heathrow Airport's terminal four building this week (March 9th).
