AirAsia is celebrating the first anniversary of its route from London Stansted Airport to Kuala Lumpur, it has been reported.
Employees and bosses met at the airport's terminal building yesterday and were congratulated by Stansted commercial and development director Nick Barton, the Bunmow Broadcast and Recorder states.
Commenting on the operation, Mr Barton praised the carrier for providing an "extremely popular" service and for a "fantastic first year" at the air hub.
"[AirAsia] have helped revolutionise long-haul travel and we are very proud to have them with us here at Stansted," he told the newspaper.
"We look forward to working with them for many years to come as they develop their services here at Stansted," he added.
Also present was London Stansted Airport managing director David Johnston.
Meanwhile, it was revealed this week (March 10th) that passenger traffic at the airport dropped 4.5 per cent between February 2009 and February 2010.
BAA chief executive officer Colin Matthews said that the figures reflect "tough conditions in the economy and in aviation".
