Around 60 per cent of British Airways flights scheduled to take off from London Heathrow Airport on March 20th, 21st and 22nd will remain unaffected by industrial action by members of the Unite union, it has been claimed.
The airline reports around 45,000 customers booked to fly during the period will be able to do so, while the remainder will be offered seats on alternative services operated by other companies.
British Airways chief executive Willie Walsh commented: "Due to the numbers of cabin crew who have called in to offer their services over the weekend, the schedule will be slightly larger than we had originally anticipated.
"We remain absolutely determined to search for a sensible settlement and our door remains open to Unite."
The union announced the industrial action due to proposed changes to working practices.
Another strike will also take place for four days from March 27th.
The carrier will operate all of its long-haul and half of its short-haul services from London Gatwick Airport during the first strike.
