A new hotel will be built at East Midlands Airport, it has been reported.

Manchester Airports Group (MAG) Developments has signed a contract with the Azure property group to construct a 216-bedroom hotel near the travel hub.

Expected to take around 18 months to build, the hotel will boast eight executive suites, conference facilities, a restaurant and bar and a swimming pool, as well as featuring low carbon standards to decrease its environmental impact.

East Midlands Airport managing director Penny Coates said that the airport already offers flights to over 100 destinations worldwide.

"The new hotel will boost the on-site offering and ensure the airport has the facilities in place to continue its development," she added.

Work is expected to begin on the site within a month and will cost an estimated total of £22 million, according to Property Week.

MAG Developments recently built an industrial unit scheme at Bournemouth Airport offering 998 sq ft of storage unit space.
