Franchise launches routes from Doncaster Sheffield to Dublin, Boston, New YorkBy Mike Booth.

A franchise agreement between two Irish carriers has led to new flights being launched from Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

Aer Lingus Regional, a partnership between Aer Lingus and Aer Arann, is developing new feeder services from the UK to Ireland, the first of which links the South Yorkshire travel hub with Dublin Airport.

The inaugural flight took off on Monday (March 29th), while new connections to the US are also connecting Doncaster Sheffield with Boston and New York.

Stephen Kavanagh, Aer Lingus chief commercial officer, said: "The expanded route network will enable us to serve key UK regional destinations with improved frequency and schedule options, while providing connectivity with our transatlantic network."

Aer Arann chief executive Paul Schutz added the new services would offer "a significant boost to both business and the tourism industry" in Yorkshire.

Meanwhile, European carrier Wizz Air recently announced a new route from Doncaster Sheffield Airport to Wroclaw in Poland.

The carrier's 12th operating base in the Polish city opened on March 12th.
