Passenger numbers at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (JLA) grew 15 per cent in the first quarter of 2010 compared with the same time last year.
Following a drop in travellers at the start of the recession, the airport reports it has carried 140,000 more passengers so far this year than it had in April 2009.
Bosses commented that new flights from Ryanair, KLM, easyJet and Eastern Airways contributed to the success.
Neil Pakey, Peel Airports deputy chief executive, commented: "More and more passengers are now flying via the airport and improved accessibility from across the region means that JLA is becoming the airport of choice for growing numbers of travellers from right across the north-west."
A £12 million development program is now underway at the airport and will see a new passenger security screening area opened in July.
Meanwhile, the airport's departure lounge will also be extended.
In other news, yesterday (April 13th) saw the maiden voyage of Ryanair's new service from Liverpool Airport to Trapani in Sicily.
