Belfast Airport records highest rise in passengersBy James Wilson.

Belfast City Airport recorded the biggest year-on-year rise in passenger numbers in March, it has been reported.

According to airport bosses, it served a total of 256,708 travellers in March, a 22.7 per cent increase on March 2009 figures and the biggest of any major UK airport.

The news comes after the airport unveiled a new £6 million departures terminal, boosting its retail space by 60 per cent.

Katy Best, business development director at Belfast City Airport, said: "These remarkable figures can be attributed to a close working relationship with our partner airlines and companies and our continuing research and investment aimed at enhancing customer service."

"We listen to what our customers want and respond accordingly," she added.

The airport also recently opened a fast track lane through security for business customers, as well as launching new flights to London Luton and Humberside airports with easyJet and Flybe respectively.

Belfast City Airport serves a total of around 2.5 million passengers each year.
