A new route from London Stansted Airport to the US is set to launch this summer, it has been revealed.

Hosted by Sun Country Airlines, the flights will link the Essex airport with Minneapolis St Paul during the summer period.

The service is set to run from June 13th to August 13th and could revive Stansted's transatlantic routes.

Stan Gadek, Sun Country president and chief executive, said: "London is a great summer destination and we are looking forward to providing customers with a new way across the Atlantic."

He added that Stansted also offers US passengers numerous links to Europe with easyJet and Ryanair.

Starting at $295 (£196) for a one-way ticket, the flights could be used by UK travellers to reach other key US mid-west cities.

London Stansted Airport serves almost 23 million passengers every year and offers flights to more than 162 locations.

The Sun Country fleet is made up of Boeing 737-700 and 737-800 aircraft.
