Liverpool John Lennon Airport has reopened following disruptions caused by a fresh ash cloud from Iceland.
Services recommenced this morning (May 17th) following restrictions placed on the airport by the Civil Aviation Authority and National Air Traffic Services yesterday.
Robin Tudor, spokesperson for the airport, told the Liverpool Echo that the new ash from the Eyjafjallajokull volcano had caused 40 flight cancellations and would have a knock-on effect for the rest of the day.
"The good news is that the no-fly zone has moved away from this area," Mr Tudor added.
Passengers were unable to fly from the airport from 13:00 BST.
The airport advises that all travellers scheduled to fly today contact their airlines directly for more information about potential delays.
Meanwhile, airports in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the south-east of England were closed today due to heavy ash clouds, including Bristol, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Cardiff.
