Virgin launches flights from London Heathrow Airport to Ghana

Virgin Atlantic operated its first flight from London Heathrow Airport to Ghana yesterday (May 24th).
The route links London with the Ghanaian capital city of Accra and will run on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.
According to the company, the scheduling is timed to allow for good connections to New York, while Virgin's upper class suites could appeal to passengers travelling business class.
Virgin chairman Sir Richard Branson was welcomed onto the inaugural flight by minister for transport Mike Hammah.
Sir Richard said: "Our new services will bring much-needed competition onto the route, increasing seat availability by 35 per cent and breaking the near monopoly British Airways has enjoyed for many years."
He added that the route, which will be served by an Airbus A340-300, is expected to carry some 60,000 passengers within a year.
Each aircraft will include 240 seats - 34 upper class, 35 premium economy and 171 economy.
Virgin Atlantic also offers flights to Kenya, South Africa and Nigeria.
