Growth in Passenger Numbers for Manchester.
10/01/2012
December is often the busiest month for airports, as people seek out some sunshine, or visit relatives for the festive season. Last year has proven to be no different with Manchester Airport reporting a year on year increase of nearly 9%.
The increase was the ninth in a row for the airport. Over 1.2 million passengers passed through their doors, an increase of 8.6% in total. Domestic passengers (those travelling within the UK saw the biggest increase, up 16.1% on December 2010. In spite of a very mild Winter in the UK, international scheduled services gained 12.6% more passengers, with a focus on Mediterranean sunshine, though, obviously skiing holidays were also high on the list.
Andrew Harrison, managing director of Manchester Airport said: “Thanks to a very busy Christmas and the new year getaways, we have seen passenger numbers growing for the ninth consecutive month year-on-year with an almost nine per cent increase in December… Ski destinations were busy with winter sports enthusiasts seeking out the snow overseas. Passenger numbers are over six per cent up on last year and, with January being the key month for summer holiday bookings, we are optimistic for the year ahead.”
