New Route to Bergen, Norway.

12/01/2012

Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) have announced a new route between Manchester Airport and Bergen, Norway. The carrier had been operating the route from London Gatwick, but dropped it under competition from Norwegian Air.

Bergen is principally a gateway to the Norwegian Fjords, as the city is surrounded by seven of them, but there is a lot on offer within the city as well. The Lysøen Estate for example, is situated just off the mainland, on an island of the same name. The house and surrounding gardens were built in 1873 as the Summer home for a famous violinist. The house is a combination of architectural styles, as a result it is unique to Scandinavia.

If you are looking for more family friendly activities, Bergen also has an incredible aquarium, with penguins and seals in an outdoor tank, as well as the more traditional collection housed indoors. The Maritime Museum is also worth going to see, obviously Norway has a long and interesting history intrinsically linked to the sea. The museum provides an insight into the Vikings way of life, using the sea as well as more recent developments.

Norway is not a cheap country to stay in, save money before you get there by booking your airport parking at Manchester in advance. Park and Go offer a large range of options; for more information, click here.
