Newcastle Airport Gets A Confidence Boost.

Official figures have been released showing that Newcastle Airport lost passengers during 2011, but only 8,500 compared to 2010. There have also been several announcements from airlines, pledging support with new routes and greater frequency of flights.

EasyJet have said that they will now be basing another plane at Newcastle, allowing greater frequency of flights. Flybe have also announces new routes to Bergen, in Norway and Newquay in Cornwall. Bergen has been twinned with Newcastle so obviously this has special significance.

Jet2 recently announced more routes from Newcastle; to Venice and Rome in Italy, Bodrum in Turkey and Reus in Spain for the Summer season. Also, the very good news that Cosmos were operating a charter flight to Orlando, Florida over the Summer from Newcastle (as well as Cardiff). The airport is obviously re-investing in the long term future, with the investment and expansion plan, which has already begun.
