Bristol Airport Reports Growth for Second Year Running.
19/01/2012
Bristol Airport is the fifth largest airport in the UK outside of London. The rise in passenger numbers is slight; only 0.8%, up to 5.7 million over the year.
There were actually fewer flights, but they operated with higher load factors (more passengers per flight), which is the most economical, and ecologically sound way to fly. There were new flights from KLM to Amsterdam, which fed into the international network available. Aer Lingus launched a flight to Dublin, which again fed into their connections to various US destinations. Blue Islands launched a service to Jersey and Heveltic began flights to Zurich.
September was a particularly good month for the airport, with record breaking passenger numbers. There are more routes beginning for this coming year through EasyJet, among others. Bristol Airport aviation director said: “We saw signs of recovery in the business travel market, and tour operators and airlines continued to offer great value flight and holiday options. We expect these trends to continue throughout 2012, and forecast a third successive year of growth… Our key targets remain securing services to Germany and Scandinavia, and we will continue making the business case for these vital links in our discussions with existing and potential airline partners.”
