Major Investment Is Unveiled for Aberdeen.

25/01/2012

The managing director for Aberdeen Airport, Derek Provan, has announced a plan to invest a total of £45 million over the next decade.

In 2012 there will be an initial investment of £4.25 million to improve the terminal and facilities available. They recently completed work on a runway extension of 124 metres, allowing much larger aircraft to use the airport. Aberdeen is the fastest growing airport, for passenger numbers in the UK with a year on year average increase of 11.5% in 2011.

Over the course of the next decade, it is hoped that the trend will continue, and the terminal will have to be improved to cope with the increase in passenger numbers. Improvements include an expansion of the security search area in the terminal, a new car rental facility and a major expansion of the international arrivals area. Mr Provan said: “Aberdeen airport has enjoyed sustained growth over the past 12 months and our longer-term forecasts suggest that this trend will continue. It is vital that we continue to invest in our facilities to create an airport that befits Aberdeen's status as the energy capital of Europe."
