Airport Gets Its Own Police Force

Edinburgh Airport will get its own dedicated police force for the first time.
The airport's operator has agreed to pay the £2.5 million annual cost of the new unit. It will mean that the hub will have more officers than are currently posted there.
Five extra officers will be added to the team of 39 that currently work at the airport, the Scotsman newspaper reports.
A spokesman for Edinburgh Airport told the paper: "Edinburgh values the important role Lothian and Borders Police plays in ensuring the safety of our passengers, particularly in the aftermath of the attack on Glasgow Airport."
A police spokesman added: "An important aspect of this arrangement is that the policing presence in the communities will not be compromised as we will have a dedicated team at the airport - there will be no need to call on resources from other areas."
Recently, Glasgow Airport revealed that it was altering the design of its forecourt to try to improve safety at the hub.
