American Airlines Switches Flights From Gatwick

American Airlines has confirmed that it will bring an end to its Gatwick operations later this year, switching all its London services to Heathrow.
The carrier revealed that it was no longer planning to keep one of its two daily flights to Dallas Fort Worth at Gatwick when the new EU-US Open Skies agreement comes into force on March 30th.
Instead, with effect from April 13th, the flight will join the other daily departure to the Texan destination and operate from Heathrow's Terminal 4, the Dallas Morning News revealed.
Tim Smith, a spokesman for American Airlines, told the newspaper that, as well as operational reasons, the decision had been influenced by the actions of its competitors.
"Other airlines are in the process of announcing new flights to Heathrow and switching some of their London capacity in that direction," he said. "All these things came together on this decision."
American Airlines' route from Gatwick to Raleigh Durham is also set to move from Gatwick to Heathrow later this year, while other US airlines including Continental and Delta will also gain a presence at the expanding airport.
