BA Boss Supports Heathrow Growth

The chief executive of British Airways has sought to allay concerns over the proposed expansion of Heathrow Airport, claiming that many of the arguments used to oppose the project are inaccurate.
Willie Walsh disputed several of the main points used to counter the plans for a third runway and a sixth terminal at the London hub.
In particular, he claimed that Heathrow has a vital part to play in boosting business, both locally and across the UK, while also arguing that the airport is the only established long-haul hub in the south-east.
Countering claims that short-haul flight passengers could be moved to rail services, he claimed that time and route issues made this option unviable.
At the same time, he said: "If Heathrow's international connectivity continues to decline, UK-based businesses will lose competitiveness and be forced to consider relocating abroad.
"Meanwhile, businesses in the UK regions will find it increasingly difficult to attract inward investment or promote their products in new overseas markets."
The government-led public consultation on the plans for Heathrow's expansion ends today (February 27th).
