Busy December Caps Off Good Year At Birmingham International

New figures have shown that Birmingham International Airport handled a record number of passengers during December 2007.
The Midlands hub said that 587,760 people used the airport during the month - up 2.3 per cent on December 2006.
In total, over 9.2 passengers passed through the airport in 2007. This represented in increase of just under one per cent on 2006 figures.
Popular scheduled routes from the airport in December included Bratislava, Barcelona, Murcia, Faro, Geneva and Paphos. The hub also saw more charter flights to places like Malta, Bulgaria, Madeira, Egypt, Barbados and the Canaries.
"Birmingham International Airport has experienced an incredible year," said Joe Kelly, the airport's acting managing director. "We're really pleased to have ended 2007 with record numbers of passengers in December and an increase overall during the 12 months.
"We've welcomed new airlines and introduced new destinations for our region's leisure and business travellers, and have opened our new extended Terminal 1 departures lounge significantly increasing facilities for the comfort and experience of our passengers."
The figures also showed that the most popular scheduled destinations from Birmingham during 2007 were Dublin, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Belfast, Dubai and Paris. Palma was the most favoured charter destination from the hub.
