Durham Tees Valley Airport Looking To Expand

Durham Tees Valley Airport is hoping to increase its in-bound passenger numbers and as such is considering the expansion of its European destinations.

That is according to a report published in the Evening Gazette on Tuesday (April 29th), which revealed that the north-east hub is looking to introduce more routes to popular tourist spots on the continent.

Durham Tees Valley Airport indicated that it experienced a particularly busy March this year, handling over 46,000 passengers - 16 per cent more than the figure for the same month last year.

Neil Pakey, deputy chief executive officer for Peel Airports, the owner of Durham Tees Valley, told the newspaper: "We will target summer sun spots in Europe and look to increase traffic between Teesside and Heathrow and Amsterdam - two destinations that give us access to the global market.

"In addition, we will look to take advantage of in-bound tourism, which is one of the fastest growing markets in the aviation industry."
