EXETER AIRPORT PARKING NEWS - 01/12/2008
UK regional carrier Flybe has launched a bid to purchase bmi baby and bmi regional, two subsidiaries of British Midland, it has been reported.
The airline is looking to purchase the budget and UK-focussed parts of the business from owners Lufthansa, the Mail on Sunday reports.
A spokesperson for the German flagship airline told the newspaper that the two divisions were not central parts of its future plans and that it is looking to compete on longer-haul international services from London.
"Our acquisition of bmi has given us a large presence at Heathrow to compete with British Airways and increase our worldwide routes," the spokesperson said.
Lufthansa recently acquired an increased stake in the British company to add to its pre-existing holding.
Based at Exeter Airport in Devon, Flybe operates from a number of UK airports and runs services to destinations across Europe, including a number of local Scottish airports in partnership with Loganair.
