Gatwick Airport Reduces Hand Baggage Restrictions

Gatwick Airport has announced a relaxation on hand baggage restrictions.
Starting today (Monday, February 11th), passengers taking a connecting flight through the North Terminal will be permitted to carry more than one piece of hand luggage on board with them.
This rule has already been applied to travellers on connecting flights through the South Terminal as of January 7th.
In a statement, Gatwick Airport underlined the fact that the one bag per person rule continued to apply for all other flights.
However, it remarked: "This rule will be relaxed in the near future when the ongoing construction project to upgrade and expand the security facilities at the airport is completed."
The airport projected that seven new security lanes would be open by Easter 2008, increasing the total number to 35.
Six new lanes were created in July last year.
The Department for Transport has said that all UK airports need to be prepared to relax one bag restrictions by May 31st 2008.
