Glasgow Prestwick Receives Praise From Scottish Minister

Glasgow Prestwick Airport was praised by Scotland's first minister Alex Salmond during a visit to the hub today (Tuesday, March 11th).

The minister was presented with a study which revealed that the airport had helped to create some 3,000 jobs in Scotland, with £173 million being generated by inbound passengers.

Mr Salmond observed that Glasgow Prestwick Airport had played a "key role" in maintaining travel links to and from Scotland in the wake of the terror attacks on Glasgow Airport.

He commented: "It was a testing time for Scotland, most notably for our airports and emergency services. Glasgow Prestwick played a key role in enabling Scotland to remain open for business with minimum disruption to travellers."

Mark Rodwell, chief executive of Glasgow Prestwick Airport, said: "The findings of the study show how important the airport has become, particularly to Ayrshire but also to Scotland as a whole, in terms of generating employment, tourism, expenditure and investment, as well as providing valuable connectivity around Europe."
