Hand Luggage Restrictions To Be Lifted At Some Airports

The government has signalled that some airports will be permitted to lift hand baggage restrictions for their passengers.
Nineteen airports around the UK have been given approval by the Department for Transport (DfT) to allow passengers to take more than one item of hand luggage onto their flight.
However, the DfT said that the final decision about hand luggage remained with individual airlines and that passengers should check with their carrier before leaving for their flight.
The rules are set to come into force on January 7th and restrictions on the carrying of liquids still remain in place.
One of the hubs where the regulations are set to be relaxed is Manchester International Airport. Its managing director, Andrew Cornish, commented: "We are one of the first airports in the UK to be allowed to lift the restriction and that's something we know our passengers and our airline customers really want.
"We're really pleased that our efforts to put speedy, effective security screening in place have been recognised by this decision."
Other airports where the hand baggage limits could be lifted include Aberdeen, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London Heathrow and Stansted.
