Humberside Bids To Keep Flyer Bus On The Road
Bosses of Humberside airport have offered to pay bus company Stagecoach a part of the £20,000 subsidy to keep the X1 Flyer bus on the road.
The route, which serves the airport from the surrounding region, is under threat of abolition due to the cost of the Humber Bridge toll.
Austin Mitchell, MP for Grimsby, suggested that the airport and local councils provide money to support the running costs.
An airport spokesman told the Grimsby Telegraph: "The X1 bus provides non-stop services to and from Humberside Airport to the two largest conurbations in the Humber region."
"As such, the airport is keen to support the continuation of this vital service and remains very supportive of the partnership approach being proposed by Mr Mitchell."
Mr Mitchell had earlier written to deputy prime minister John Prescott suggesting that the X1 route is of great benefit to the area and that scrapping it would be of detriment to its inhabitants.
Stagecoach currently operates the service over 20 times per day, Monday to Friday.
