JET2 IS UK'S TOP BUDGET AIRLINE

Jet2 has been named the UK's best low-cost airline by a prestigious industry awards.

At the Telegraph Travel Awards Jet2 came second in the Best Budget Airline category behind German outfit Air Berlin. Fellow British firm bmibaby was third.

In response the airline posted a notice on their website, saying: "The announcement secures Jet2's position as the UK's leading low fare airline among UK consumers."

It went on to say that that it "fought off stiff competition from a raft of […] low cost competitors" to walk away with this impressive accolade.

Some 25,000 people were polled for the awards, which also saw Cape Town voted best world city, Italy as best European country and New Zealand as the top destination outside Europe. The award for best British hotel went to London's world-famous Claridges.

Jet2 is based at Leeds Bradford airport in West Yorkshire and flies to a number of European destinations including Ibiza, Paris and Amsterdam.
