Liverpool Airport Will See Investment From EU Grant

A European Union grant awarded to Liverpool will benefit John Lennon Airport.
Liverpool Daily Post reported that by 2013, over £1 billion of investment will be brought to the region, with around £20 million being used to improve the gateways to the area, including the airport.
The programme, which is being managed by the Northwest Regional Development Agency, is also hoped to reduce carbon emissions in the region.
Steve Broomhead, chief executive of the agency, commented: "The key is to spend on projects that are sustainable and going to make a big difference and have an economic impact and an impact on the quality of life of people in the region.
"Improving the road and rail infrastructure are things that can be done. Others examples include the second crossing of the Mersey, and improving access to John Lennon Airport.
"Without good access, it is a barrier to economic sustainability."
