MAG Hints At Purchase Of Gatwick Airport

Manchester Airports Group (MAG) has said that it would be interested in buying Gatwick Airport should the current owners be forced to sell the London hub.
Gatwick is currently operated by the Spanish-owned BAA but the Competition Commission is worried that its control of the capital's three largest airports is not in the best interests of the public or airlines.
Last month it said in a report that BAA "dominates the airports markets in the south-east of England and in lowland Scotland" and as such it will decide in August whether or not to break it up.
MAG has hinted that if this happens then it would put in a bid for Gatwick.
Speaking to BBC Radio 4's Today programme, MAG chief executive Geoff Muirhead said: "We'd be interested in any assets that come up, on the premise that we feel we could improve the performance of the group on the back of it, at a price that was sensible."
MAG is the second largest airport operator in the UK.
