MANCHESTER AIRPORT PARKING NEWS - 26/11/2008
Access to the one of the UK's largest airports will be given a multimillion pound boost by the government, it has been announced.
The Department for Transport has confirmed that £165 million of funding will be used to improve road links to Manchester Airport, which is the fourth-largest such facility in the country.
Under the new financial allocation, sections of road between the M56 Manchester Airport Spur and the A555 would be built, along with a section between the A555 and A6 at Hazel Grove.
Secretary of state for transport Geoff Hoon said: "Making this funding available for new road links around Manchester Airport reflects our commitment to support economic growth in the UK.
"I am making this £165 million available to unblock a scheme which has for too long languished on engineering drawing boards and to galvanise regional and local partners into considering how together we can make this happen."
Manchester Airport handles approximately 21 million passengers each year on flights to destinations around the world.
