Newcastle Airport Set For Busy Easter Weekend

Newcastle International Airport is anticipating the busiest weekend of the year so far, with many people from the north east set to escape the current grim weather over the Easter bank holiday period.
Spanish destinations are at the top of the list for Newcastle flyers in search of a holiday in the sun, with the Canary Islands (Tenerife, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria) being the most popular in Easter 2008.
Holidaymakers from the north east are also setting off on a range of city breaks, with many passengers heading to Amsterdam, Belfast, Bristol and Paris.
Chris Sanders, head of airline relations at Newcastle International Airport, commented: "We're expecting around 40,000 holidaymakers to take advantage of flights to and from the airport over the Easter weekend, flying to over 65 destinations worldwide.
"We've got 580 flights scheduled to arrive and depart over the four-day holiday period, with Easter Monday expected to be our busiest day of the year so far."
