Newcastle Flyers Among First To Experience Terminal 5

Newcastle International Airport passengers landing at Heathrow yesterday (Thursday, March 27th) were among the first in the world to do so at the state-of-the-art Terminal 5.

With improved facilities and faster baggage delivery, T5 will benefit north-east flyers in particular as British Airways will have exclusive use of the terminal for many of its services, including flights to and from Newcastle Airport.

Chris Sanders, head of airline relations for Newcastle International Airport, noted that every year more than 500,000 north-east passengers fly with British Airways between Newcastle and Heathrow.

He added: "We are confident that their experiences of Heathrow will be completely transformed from today onwards, particularly for those customers with onward connections from T5 to destinations around the world, who will now save considerable time and avoid the inconvenience of having to change terminals at Heathrow.

"British Airways operates extremely popular and successful services between Newcastle and Heathrow, but the opening of T5 will further strengthen this key route."

T5 offers a range of facilities to departing passengers, such as Harrods, Prada and a Gordon Ramsey restaurant.
