Passenger Numbers Rise At Gatwick

The number of passengers using Gatwick Airport continued to increase in March, it was announced today (Wednesday, April 9th).

Last month saw passenger numbers at the London hub rise to more than 2.8 million, representing a year-on-year increase of 8.1 per cent.

The airport maintained that, as the school holidays dictate that the bulk of Easter travel will occur in April, these figures have "not been disproportionately inflated by the early Easter this year".

Gatwick Airport's website stated: "Passenger numbers continued to grow last month with over 2.8 million passengers travelling through the airport - a leap of 8.1 per cent compared to March 2007.

"The number of passengers travelling to and from Ireland continued to increase with a 44.8 per cent growth rate. European scheduled traffic rose by 13.9 per cent and European charter traffic rose by 12.4 per cent. The domestic market decreased by 3.4 per cent and the North Atlantic market declined by 0.3 per cent. Other long haul traffic remained static."
