Permission Granted For Wind Turbines At East Midlands Airport

East Midlands Airport has announced today (Tuesday, March 25th) that it has been granted permission for the installation of four wind turbines on-site.
It is estimated that the 31.5 metre turbines will produce up to 225 kilowatts each, generating ten per cent of the airport's energy.
Following the approval of North West Leicestershire District Council, East Midlands Airport expects the wind turbines to be operational by late 2008.
Penny Coates, managing director of East Midlands Airport, commented: "We are delighted with the news. The four turbines are a step closer to delivering on the promise we made in our Master Plan.
"In addition to the four wind turbines, we have increased the proportion of energy that comes from renewable sources and introduced a number of environmental measures such as our 'green pier' to reduce the impact on the environment.
"The turbines are another very substantial investment in environmental management by the airport."
Liverpool John Lennon Airport installed two 15 metre turbines in January this year.
