BIRMINGHAM AIRPORT PARKING NEWS - 24/11/2008
Low-cost carrier Ryanair has announced an expansion of its services from Brussels from spring next year.
The airline will station one of its new Boeing 737-800 aircraft at Charleroi Airport from 31st March 2009.
It was confirmed by the Irish airline, which flies to a number of UK destinations including Birmingham Airport, that the aircraft will serve three new routes: three weekly return flights to Barcelona (Reus) and Bratislava, as well as twice-weekly returns to Trieste.
In a statement the company claimed that it was to make the move after the national government decided to abandon plans for a proposed 10 tax on air passengers.
On behalf of Ryanair, Michael Crawley said: "Thanks to the Belgian governments decision to listen to the concerns of the business community, the tourism industry, airports and airlines the people of Brussels are celebrating the arrival of a 6th based aircraft and three exciting new routes which go on sale today."
Ryanair has recently courted controversy over its 2009 charity calendar, which features scantily-clad female members of its air crew, after a number of European politicians spoke out against the perceived exploitation of its staff.
