Ryanair Picks Birmingham As Site Of New Base

Ryanair has said that it will be establishing its 25th European base at Birmingham International Airport.
The low-cost carrier revealed that it would be initially stationing Boeing 737-800 aircraft at the hub.
This means that the airline can roll out a host of new routes from Birmingham, including services to Denmark, France, Italy, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain and Sweden.
In the future, Ryanair plans to base a further eight Boeing 737-800 aircraft at the hub.
"Ryanair's new base will smash this high fare stranglehold by delivering savings of £130 million next year for Birmingham's passengers and visitors," explained the airline's chief executive, Michael O'Leary.
"Direct international routes are fundamental to the economic development of a city like Birmingham and the people of the West Midlands can now look forward to Europe's guaranteed lowest fares and best punctuality on 22 international routes with Ryanair."
Peter Vella, Birmingham Airport's business development director, added: "It's great news for Birmingham to have been selected to be a major base for Ryanair.
"[This] announcement means many more new routes from the Midlands' premier airport and allows people to fly from within their region."
