Schoolchildren Learn About Green Issues At Newcastle Airport

Newcastle International Airport recently invited ten children from Ponteland Middle School to air traffic control to learn about how noise pollution is managed at the hub.
The children, who are part of the school's Eco Action Team, were able to gain greater insight into the impact of local environmental concerns on the running of an airport.
They observed how Newcastle's air traffic controllers managed the busy skies by watching the radar screens and listening to communication from pilots.
Helen Hughes, environmental co-ordinator for Newcastle Airport, commented: "Newcastle International is always keen to work with schools to teach young pupils how we're committed to keeping the environment clean.
"The recent visit from the Ponteland Middle School's Eco Action Team provides an excellent opportunity to work together to manage the local environment.
"It also gives the children an insight into how businesses manage their environmental impact. We hope that in the future these students can actually use and analyse the data from the noise monitors in class lessons."
