Strike Averted At Exeter Airport

A proposed strike at Exeter International Airport over the coming days has been called off.

Firefighters from the Unison union had been set to begin a series of five-hour strikes from today but the plan have been called off at the last minute, according to airline Flybe.

The BBC reports that the firefighters were intent on striking over a pay dispute, with claims that they are paid as much as £5,000 less than other firemen in the area.

The low-cost carrier said in a statement: "Flybe is delighted that all strike action has been cancelled and passengers will be able to travel in and out of Exeter this summer without inconvenience."

However, it warned that a temporary schedule would be place today and advised passengers to check times before arriving.

The airport offers flights to a number of UK and European destinations on carriers such as Air Transat and Skybus as well as Flybe.
