Wind Turbines Installed At Liverpool Airport

Two 15-metre high wind turbines have been installed at Liverpool's John Lennon airport (JLA) in the first scheme of its kind.
The turbines, which will contribute towards the airport's electricity needs, have been set up to explore ways in which the impact of the company's operations can be minimised.
Andrew Dutton, JLA's environment manager, said that the wind turbines could potentially play an important part in the airport's future development, along with other renewable energy sources.
"This trial will hopefully demonstrate that turbines can be sited at an operational airport and that others can follow suit.
"These small yet extremely efficient turbines are proving that wind turbines at airports can make an important contribution to sustainable energy supply."
The scheme represents the second environmental initiative undertaken by the airport.
In 2006 JLA introduced the 'Last Call!' initiative, whereby passengers have the opportunity to donate money towards planting trees.
