MANCHESTER AIRPORT OPENS FIRST PART OF NEW DEVELOPMENT

Manchester Airport opens first part of new developmentThe first phase of Manchester Airport's £35 million redevelopment has been officially opened to the public.

Coronation Street star Jane Danson opened the airport's new £10 million mezzanine food and bar area - the first stage of a massive redevelopment of Terminal 1.

This new area includes a Giraffe Restaurant, Bar MCR and The Real Food Company's food court.

According to the airport, the opening marks the first milestone in its two-year project to redevelop Terminal 1. Once complete, all of the terminal's shops, restaurants and bars will be moved to after the security screening process.

Manchester Airport's commercial director of retail, Andrew Harrison, explained: "The opening of the restaurants and bars marks an exciting stage in the overall development and opens up an area of the airport that has never before been seen by the public.

"We've worked very hard to get the mix right and we're expecting more than five million passengers a year to eat and drink here so it is a very important part of our redevelopment and the future of the airport."

Airlines that operate from Manchester's Terminal 1 include Jet2.com, Monarch Airlines, Ryanair and Thomas Cook Airlines.

These carriers offer flights to destinations like Barbados, Calgary, Cancun, Palma, Paphos, Preveza, Amsterdam and Nice.
